Jewellery Care Guide

Jewellery Care Guide

How to take care of my jewellery?

Always separate the jewellery and put them in individual pouches or compartments. Because some jewellery is softer than others. For example, if you place a diamond ring with your 999 pure gold bracelet together, you are running at a very high risk of your gold bracelet getting scratched by the diamond because purer gold is malleable, and diamonds are one of the hardest objects on earth.

Gold

It is not recommended to wear 24k or 22k gold accessories while sleeping or engaging in physical activities.

Firstly, gold is a relatively soft metal, and 24k and 22k gold are quite malleable. They can be easily scratched, dented, or damaged compared to other metals. Wearing gold accessories during activities that involve a lot of movement or contact, such as exercising or sleeping, may increase the risk of damaging the jewellery.

Secondly, gold is prone to tarnishing or discolouration when exposed to certain chemicals or substances, such as sweat, oils, chlorine or perfumes. So avoid spraying your perfume directly on your jewellery and refrain from physical activities when your are wearing your jewellery.

Overall, while there is no hard and fast rule against wearing 24k or 22k gold accessories when going to bed or exercising, it may be wise to consider the potential risks and make a judgment based on personal preferences and habits. If in doubt, remove such accessories during these activities to ensure their longevity and your safety

Diamonds and Gems

Diamonds and gemstones are one of the hardest objects on earth. However, if they are not handled properly it will eventually lead to the diamond losing its shine. So, here are some tips for you to keep your diamonds sparkly.

Store it carefully: When you're not wearing your diamond, it's important to store it appropriately to prevent it from getting scratched or damaged. Store it in a soft pouch or jewellery box with separate compartments for each piece to prevent it from rubbing against other jewellery.

Avoid wearing them during rough activities: They can still get damaged or chipped if you wear them during rough activities like sports or manual labour even though they are tough stones in nature. It's best to remove your diamond before engaging in such activities.

Avoid exposing it to harsh chemicals: Harsh chemicals like chlorine or bleach can damage your diamond. Take off your diamond before swimming or doing household chores when it involves bleach or other harsh chemicals. By following these tips, you can keep your diamond looking beautiful and sparkling for years to come.

How to Clean my jewellery

Cleaning gold:

To clean gold, you can use mild soap and warm water. Mix a few drops of dish soap in warm water and soak your gold jewellery in the solution for a few minutes. Then use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a cloth to gently scrub the jewellery, especially in crevices and hard-to-reach areas. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasives, or rough materials that may scratch or damage the gold.

Cleaning diamonds:

To clean diamonds, you can use a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap. Soak the diamond jewellery in the solution for a few minutes and then use a soft-bristled toothbrush or a cloth to gently scrub the diamond. Pay attention to the underside of the diamond where dirt and oil can accumulate. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth. You can also use a commercial diamond cleaner, but make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Β Cleaning different gemstones:

The best way to clean gemstones depends on the specific gemstone.

For pearls, wipe them with a soft, damp cloth and avoid using any cleaners that may damage the delicate surface.

For emeralds, rub them gently with a soft cloth and mild soapy water. Avoid using ultrasonic cleaners or steam cleaners, which can damage the stone.

For sapphires and rubies, use warm soapy water and a soft-bristled brush to gently clean the surface of the stone. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

It is always a good idea to consult our jeweller or gemologist for specific cleaning instructions for your particular gemstone.
